1. Founded in 1993, NIRD is a Northbrook based company.
2. It is an independent group of physicians who provides expert management of health care to
variety of nationally known health insurance companies.
3. We continue to extend our services across a variety of projects and related institutes.
4. The Northbrook Institute for Research and development is a network of over 30 primary care and
specialty physicians providing comprehensive, accessible medical review.
5. Our consultants are practicing or retired physicians, all of them are Board Certified with first-hand
healthcare experience.
6. Northbrook Institute Physicians provide instant reviews, knowledgeable decisions and
predictably better outcomes of pre-authorization request.
7. The average cost of an inappropriate study denied is $940. Each year NIRD physicians save our customers in excess of $90 million while making sure that patients receive the safest and most appropriate level of care.
8. Northbrook physicians apply clinical guidelines consistent with community standards of care and clinical standard established by the various specialty societies who update and publish specific criteria. (i.e. American College of Radiology, American College of Neurology and Psychiatry, etc.)

Leadership
1. The principles are academicians recognized in the health care management industry; health
economics, facility design and construction are well known for their technical expertise.
2. The chairman and founder served from 1975-2005 as a tenured professor and chairman at the
department of radiology at the Chicago Medical School, he was honored eight times as a professor
of the year. He was a visiting professor at john Hopkins, the Hektoen Institute, the University
of Illinois, department of electronics and computer sciences, the medical university of Vietnam,
the Chinese academy of medical sciences and Oxford University in England.
3. The vice chairman is an internationally known as an expert in facility design and acquisition.
4. Other members of our leadership include the inventor and the developer of the artificial shoulder
in addition to professors in medicine surgery, urology, OBGN, ophthalmology, neurology,
radiology, cardiology and family medicine.

Achievements
1. 1981 open MRI facility at the Chicago medical school was designed and operated within three
months. It was the first facility in the Midwest that was built in site at the Chicago medical school
to serve the VA as well as Naval hospital.
2. 1983 design and construction of the CT imaging facility at North Chicago veteran’s
administration medical centre. The unit was one of a kind that still serve the VA patients as of
today.
3. 1990 establishment and design an operation of the virtual reality laboratory at the veterans’
administration medical center.
4. 1993 establishment of NIRD (Northbrook Institute of Research and Development) is an only
independent group of physicians who provide the expert management of health care to variety
of nationally known health insurance companies, still operating today.
5. 1998 Standup MRI facility, design and operation. Free standing privately owned unique imaging
facility.
6. 1999 Consultant to the Chinese government in the management and integration of the western
and oriental medicine.
7. 2001consultant to the minister of health of Vietnam in the design of software for medical
students and hospital facilities.
8. 2005 establishment, design and operation of call centre in Northbrook.
9. 2006 design and implementation of a unique EMR (electronic medical record) “Sophan”
10. Construction and design of new facility of the Northbrook institute of behavioral health
(still under construction, expected completion in 2012)
